Earlier today, it was announced that Lubbock legend and rock & roll pioneer Buddy Holly would be getting hologrammed. According to a press release, a partnership between Maria Elena Holly and Hologram USA Entertainment Inc. will be bringing live full-length shows starting in 2016. The performances will debut in Texas and eventually be taken around the world. No word on if that first show will be in Lubbock, Texas or elsewhere.
As most know, Holly would go on to revolutionize the music industry–not just by his songwriting, his unique vocal techniques, or his simplistic, yet imaginative guitar playing–but also by his recording process in and around the studio, which is typically criminally underrated by the masses.
Holly would only be in the national spotlight for roughly 18 months before the tragic plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa took his life along with fellow artists Ritchie Valens, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson. It’ll be 56 years since the crash happened this February 3.
In that short time span, he’d release three studio albums, The “Chirping” Crickets, Buddy Holly, and That’ll Be The Day–and all before the age of 22. Despite all that, those three albums (and the numerous posthumous albums released since then), Holly’s overall impact is just simply immeasurable.

In an historic partnership with Maria Elena Holly, Buddy Holly’s wife, Hologram USA Entertainment Inc. will create a full-length show with the legendary icon.
Beverly Hills, CA (January 26, 2014): Hologram USA has announced another historic, full-length show around the image and work of one of the world’s most beloved stars, Buddy Holly. In a partnership with the star’s wife and head of Buddy Holly Licensing, LLC, Maria Elena Holly, the show will debut in his birth state of Texas in 2016 and eventually tour the world. Fans will see Holly singing the songs that changed the course of Rock and Roll.
An Original Member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Buddy sold millions of albums and was described by critic Bruce Eder as “the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll.” His works and innovations inspired and influenced both his contemporaries and later musicians, most notably The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Graham Nash, The Who, and Bruce Springsteen, and of course his death was memorialized in Don McLean’s “American Pie.” The first ever “jukebox musical,” Buddy-The Buddy Holly story has been running for 25 straight years in the UK, making it the highest grossing rock musical of all time. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Holly thirteenth among “The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time.” No less an authority than the US Postal Service recognized Buddy’s greatness along with Elvis with one of the first Four “Legends of Rock and Roll” Stamps.
As with Hologram USA Entertainment’s recently announced Liberace hologram show planned for Las Vegas, the partnership affords the producers with unprecedented access to music and imagery of Holly in order to create the most authentic experience possible for fans. Interactive elements involving the audience and back up band members are also being created.
Coming off the huge success of Hologram USA’s Jimmy Kimmel Live hologram on ABC, this is the second of a whole slate of celebrity resurrection projects that the company will announce in early 2015. All will use the same technology that created the famous Tupac Shakur Coachella hologram which sparked the demand for audience to experience HD, 3D performances by beloved stars. (Hologram USA controls the North American license for the technology).
“I am a big Buddy Holly fan so much so that I still can’t believe that we are in the Buddy Holly business. This is a great Time for Hologram USA to help bring back this incredible icon,” says Alki David, CEO of Hologram USA.
“I am so excited that my partnership with Hologram USA on the Buddy Holly concert project will allow a new generation of fans to experience the thrill of seeing Buddy ‘live’ and in concert for the first time in many decades,” says Maria Elena Holly, Buddy Holly’s wife and head of Buddy Holly Licensing. “”This show is dedicated to Buddy’s fans around the world – it is because of them that his music will Not Fade Away.””
“”Hologram USA’s commitment to this project, and their extraordinarily lifelike hologram technology, promises an experience so real that I can not wait to experience my first Buddy Holly concert!” adds Stephan Easley, Counsel to Buddy Holly Licensing and Counsel to The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation. “Buddy’s passionate fans will not be disappointed.”
Work has already begun on creating the Buddy Holly Hologram show with the launch city and date to be announced very soon. After the Texas, launch Hologram USA will roll the show out across the USA and then globally.
FilmOn Networks, recently named by Forbes magazine as the No 1 game changer in the television industry, will host the Internet broadcast of the events.
