Editor’s Note: We’re trying this again. Getting 30 artists to answer the same question. For the month of September–one for each day–we’ll be getting 30 Lubbock-West Texas singer-songwriters to answer the following question. For the complete list of September answers, click here.

Is there a song that you’ve written that you find yourself singing with your eyes closed more often than not when performed live? Why?

“I close my eyes a lot of times during different songs, but I keep them open here and there to see if people are paying attention. But when I sing “Number 7,” it’s a song that’s just for me that I happen to sing for everybody else. I close my eyes and put myself in the place of when I wrote it, the idea, and that moment. They’re closed the whole time during it. I’m giving it to others to hear, but for all intents and purposes, it’s just for me. That’s the one.”

Dave Martinez, singer-songwriter

“Number 7” appears on Martinez’ debut EP Two Wolves. Listen to it below. Like Dave Martinez on Facebook here and follow him on Twitter here.
