Three years in and Viva Big Bend Music Festival is expanding. They’ve branched out from just Alpine and Marfa to Ft. Davis, Marathon, and Lajitas and from a summer weekend in July to a week of festivities—in all, more than 75 shows over six days in five Texas towns. 2014’s Viva Big Bend will be happening July 24-27 with additional Lajitas Resort shows from July 22-23.
Last night, they announced the first wave of bands and songwriters playing this year. As always, Lubbock represents well. Singer-songwriters Butch Hancock, Bob Livingston, Jay Boy Adams, Colin Gilmore (and Nicolette Good), Brennan Leigh & Noel McKay, and country music staple and producer Lloyd Maines (with singer-songwriter Terri Hendrix.)
Other artists include: Anthony Ray Wright, Carlos Maxwell, Chris Watson Band, David Garza, DD Dagger, Doodlin Hogwallops, Doug Moreland, Doug Strahan & The Good Neighbors, El Tule, Elizabeth McQueen, Emilie Clepper, Graham Wilkinson, Henry & The Invisibles, Holiday Mountain, Joe King Carrasco, La Tampiquena, Los Pinches Gringos, Mike & The Moonpies, Nakia, Primo Carasco & David Beebe, Reckless Kelly, Shelley King Band, Soul Track Mind, Sour Bridges, Suzanna Choffel, Tejas Brothers, Terri Hendrix with Lloyd Maines, Tessy Lou & The Shotgun Stars, Texas Tornados, Texas Tycoons, The O’s, The Peterson Brothers, The Statesboro Revue, The Washers, Twang Twang Shock-A-Boom, Walt Wilkins, Border Blues, Christa Russell, Drew Kennedy, Grupo Alergra, Matt Skinner, and Philip Q. Morrow.
Currently, the music festival will be showcased at a number of venues in Alpine, Marfa, Marathon, Ft. Davis, and Lajitas including: Audrey & Tyrone Kelly Outdoor Theater (Ft. Davis), Gage Hotel (Marathon), Granada Theatre (Alpine), Holland Hotel (Alpine), Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa (Lajitas), Lost Horse (Marfa), Padre’s (Marfa), Planet Marfa (Marfa), Railroad Blues (Alpine), Reata (Alpine), and The USO Hall (Marfa).
