The Turnpike Troubadours, arguably are the most gifted alternative country band currently in the nation. Their ceiling seems limitless. Their potential and promise, it’s unmatched. It’s a perfect storm. They’re the face and sound of a southern music revolution. It’s “Texas Country” by geographical standards. It’s roots music by sound. It’s Americana.

We’ve decided that they would be the perfect candidate for a new New Slang feature. Song tournaments in which we attempt to take an artist/band’s discography and decide what their best overall song is by a 32 (or 64) song tournament. You can also listen to the Spotify playlist below as well.

How it works:

We’ve asked five Turnpike Troubadours “experts” and asked them to rank every Turnpike Troubadours song. Once we received those rankings, we averaged them out to come up with our official Turnpike Troubadours Song Bracket, which you can see below.

From that point, we created an anonymous pool of 25 voters who will vote on each match-up as the tournament goes on. The majority wins and moves on. We here at New Slang will comment on each match-up as the song tournament goes on.

Here’s a schedule for the tournament:

Monday: Introduce the Seeds and Match-ups
Tuesday: Sweet Sixteen
Wednesday: Elite Eight
Thursday: Final Four
Friday: Championship; Announce winner
