Seems like these days, great music festivals sprout up just about everywhere (well, you know, except Lubbock). This coming July (26-29), Alpine and Marfa will be a mecca of sorts for Texas music fans.
Viva Big Bend, being produced by Texas Music Magazine, has recently announced 26 bands/acts who will be performing at this year’s festival and music-industry conference. There are plenty of musical ties to Lubbock including Amanda Shires, Lloyd Maines (performing with Terri Hendrix), Josh Abbott Band, and Colin Gilmore, Jimmie Dale’s singer-songwriting son.
Other performers include: Bob Schneider, Dale Watson, Doodlin’ Hogwallups, Doug Moreland, El Tule, Folk Family Revival, Ghosts Along the Brazos, Graham Wilkinson, Guy Forsyth, Luke Olson, Matt Skinner, Mike & the Moonpies, Miss Julia & the Cruzers, Morry Sochat & the Special 20s, Sam Sliva & the Good, Seryn, Sideshow Tramps, Sons of Fathers, Soul Track Mind, Terri Hendrix, The Border Blasters, The Lonesome Heroes, and The O’s.
Currently, the music festival will be showcased at a number of venues in both Alpine and Marfa, including: Railroad Blues (Alpine), Granada Theatre (Alpine), Reata Restaurant (Alpine), Padre’s (Marfa), Planet Marfa (Marfa), Kokernot Field (Alpine) and the USO Hall (Marfa).
You can currently purchase tickets for $50.00 from the official Viva Big Bend website here.
